    In this district buying and selling were carried on but they are not carried on much nowadays. There were numbers of shops in this district long ago such as the following. There was a shop in my father's land named Lynch's. He sold all sorts of goods. This shop is in ruins now it is about a quarter of a mile from the school. There was a public house beside the red line. This shop was called a "sheebeen" shop. Izabella Jameson had another shop. It is situated beside the road leading to Kill Church. There was another "sheebeen" house beside Patrick Collins of Drumnatrade. It was named Carrols.
    In this district people used to go round and sell clothes These were called hawkers. Some of them sell in towns Peddler's are said to sell fruit in towns. He also sells delf. At every Church there used to be men seen selling fruit of all sorts. Carrickallen is the only Church at which this is still carried on. Sunday is said to be an unlucky day for selling cattle. A raining day is unlucky for selling cattle.
