When the animal is sold the halter or rope is given a token of luck. Luck money is also given to the buyer and this is called a luck-penny. The luck penny is calculated according to the amount paid for the animal. If the seller gets ten pounds for an animal he gives two shillings of a luck penny. If the seller gets a good price for his animal he takes the buyer to a public house and gives him a drink.- Collector
