  1. There are no holy wells in the locality.
    Warts (a) Dip them in water which is in a hole in a stone. But you must not set out to look for the water, you must find it by chance.
    (b) Rub a snail to the warts and then hang the snail on a thorn.
    Boils. Apply poultice of fat bacon.
    Cramp. Tie a string tightly around the limb.
    Rheumatism. Eat plenty of cabbage.
    Stye. Point eleven gooseberry thorns at it and then throw the thorns over the left shoulder and not look where they go.
    Teeth. When a tooth is pulled, throw it over the left shoulder and do not look where it goes and you will be free from toothache during the following year.
    Burns or scalds. Apply a poultice of buttermilk and bread soda, and hold to the fire until it gets hard. Repeat if pain or blister is not gone.
    "Wild fire" Rub it with some article of gold.
    Nettle sting: Rub with a dock leaf.
    Corn: Apply castor oil.
