- Before potatoes are set the ground is well manured with farmyard manure. This is scattered and spread along each ridge and drill.
The sciollans are then stuck in the ridges and planted in the drills and covered.
A spade is used in a small plot of ground and a plough is used in a bog.
Wooden ploughs were very common long ago and some people use them still. They were like ordinary ploughs but made of wood.
The spades were made by blacksmiths long ago.
The seed potatoes are cut with a knife in such a way as to have an eye in each set.The sets are known as sciollans.
Several holes are made in each ridge about nine inches apart and the sciollans are stuck in(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
