Coming into "the town of Clogheen" you see the ruins of several mills which at one time were the pulse of that then thriving town. The industrial activity then pursued reached its peak point in the year 1834, and from the facts obtainable concerning those industries we may come to the conclusion that "Selfsufficiency" was practised not preached in those far off days. After the famine period industrial activity began to wane in Clogheen, finally ceasing in 1885. The population of the town in 1834 was 1,900 to-day 450. Historic causes alone can furnish a clue to the great decline in industrial activity and population.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
