  1. The name of the townland in which we live is Monadiha, Rathgormack, Co. Waterford, and it is in the Barony of Upper-Third. There are nine houses in the townland now. There were six in it long ago. Some of the houses are thatched and others are slated. The reason it is called Monadiha is that long ago there was a big bog on James Terry's farm of Monadiha and it was full of turf. This bog is a big green field now. There are two people in the townland who are over seventy years old. Some of the people have a knowledge of Irish and they speak it sometimes. They are not able to tell stories in English or Irish. No one goes to America from the townland now but they used go long ago. There are no old ruins in the townland. The name of the townland was never mentioned in a song or old saying. Most of the land is good for tillage but some of it is boggy. A lot of crops grow in this townland. We grow - cabbage, potatoes, oats, wheat, hay, carrots, parsnips, peas, onions and many other things. There are no woods in the townland. There are small rivers in the townland but there are no names on them. There are no lakes in, or near the townland. There are not stories about
