- I heard my Uncle tell a story of a Hidden Treasure being in our farm, in an old Danish fort. Our farm is in Tonyscallon. This old fort is situated on sloping ground to the back of the house, and is said to have existed since the time of the Danes. In the middle of the fort is a large old hawthorn bush, and at the root of this bush the valuable treasure is said to be hidden, and some say it is a pot of gold. The story goes that the owner hid it there for safety, and planted the bush to mark the spot. No one knows what depth it is hidden in the earth. Several attempts were made in the past, it is said, to get it, but all without success, as people who attempt to unearth it were troubled with "fair people running from room to room in their houses at night, so that they were unable to get any sleep. Therefor they had to abandon the attempt to get the treasure.
