- Cootehill is the name of my home town. It got its name from Coote an officer in the Cromwellian army. He got a grant of all the land round here for the part he played in the Cromwellian campaigns. Coote was married to a lady named Hill and from the surname of husband and wife Cootehill got its name. Cootehill is situated in the townland of Magheranure parish of Drumgoom, and barony of Tullygarvey.
