- The tailors of long ago used to make the clothes in the people's houses. When they had to make a suit of clothes for anyone they went to the person's house and stayed till they had the clothes made. They charged six shillings for making a suit.
The tailors brought a goose and a lap-board.
The goose was the name of the iron for pressing the clothes and the lap-board was a board for spreading the cloths upon.
The dress-makers were called manti-makers long ago.
