- There was a great wind storm in the year 1839. It began about two o'clock at night when the people of the country were all in bed and lasted for two hours. It was the south-west wind that was blowing and it did terrible harm.
It blew the roof off John Boyle's house (Latully, Cootehill, Co. Cavan) and blew the meal out of the chest and sent it flying to the four corners of the world. It tossed hay and straw and blew doors open. After a while it grew calmer and it was over. The(continues on next page)
