    to enjoy themselves for three generations which was called - THE GENTLEMAN'S SEAT. It had a natural spring formed by ivy and vine roots like a carriage. There was room for twelve children to sit there. A storm put an end to it - after a life of 150 years.
    There is a boghole here - twas [?] - also a well which never runs dry.
    There used to be a STILL HOUSE - KILN near here. The latter can still be seen and is used as a cow house by John Mooney who succeeded Martin O'Connor having married his daughter.
    A considerable amount of POTEEN used be made here before the R.I.C. came locally. Then the Revenue Officer used to visit the place - on one occasion a bad incident took place which few now know of - one day a Revenue Officer came as there was a barrel containing a [?] of POTEEN in the still house, a young married woman picked it up and ran to the Lake where there was a boat ready and started for Mt. Shannon on the other side of the lake but the officer fired at her and she fell dead - That ended Ballymaylera Poteen making. This woman's
