  1. In olden times the people got married during Shrove. The lucky days for getting married are Saturday and Wednesday. People got married long ago in their own homes and usually at night. The priest and bridegroom the bridesmaid and the best man came to the bride's home. The bride wore "something old and something new something borrowed and something blue". Now when people get married the people of the place tie an old shoe to the carriage for that is a sign of good luck. At the breakfast they throw sugar balls and balls of coloured paper. The bride should not go to her new home that night or ill-luck would be her lot. The night that the bride comes to her new home is the night of the big ball.
