- My Grandfather told me that spinning was a great industry in this district long ago, and it is still carried on to-day. Mrs Colgan who lived in Creevolan was a great spinner. Young and old used to gather to this woman's house at night to help her to card the wool. From this thread - she made socks, stockings, flannens for under ware and blankets.
Her husband John Colgan was a great flax weaver. First he scutched the flax with a scutch stick, then he spun it on reels into thread. When he had the thread spun he dyed it different colours for bed ticks and with the white flax he waved Linen shirts.(continues on next page)- Informant
