    Roinn Roinn Postáil
    Milk was churned in the old days in what was called a dash churn. It was shaped like a barrel with the long hand of the dash coming through a hole in the churn. Before the churning started a small piece of fire was put under the churn and a pinch of salt thrown into it. This was a supertitious belief that these things could ward off the power of the faries. Another belief was that if anywone left the house while churning was in progress without assisting at it he had the power to take away all the butter and no matter how long the people of the house would be churning they could not get any. fairies,
