In olden times there were no doctors or nurse's or chemist shops. The people had cures of their own. For a toothache they used to put "bread-soda" into the tooth if there were a hole in the tooth. For a sty to pull ten thorns, (and) of a goose-berry bush and throw away one of them, and then for nine days point them to the eye saying 'In the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
"For a nose bleed" to tie a woollen thread around the little finger.
"For a thorn in the foot or hand To put a "Fox's tongue" to it.
