- Marriages take place locally at Shrove tide. The months of May and August and Wednesday,s and Fridays are thought unlucky for marriages. There are no customs or beliefs connected with Shrove. Mostly all the farmers matches are made in this district. Money is given as a dowry. Stock or goods are never given. About fifty years ago marriages took place in the houses of the people and in the house of the priest. Sometimes wedding feasts are held in the houses, but very often people go to Cork and get married there and have the wedding feast in a hotel.
