- In olden times people never ate more than three meals a day.
These were breakfast, dinner, and supper. The meals consisted chiefly of potatoes, and butter milk and oaten porridge. The people always ate their breakfast before going to work. In mostly all the houses the table was placed in the centre of the floor and all the family sat round it for their meals. Meat, except bacon, was hardly ever eaten and very often the poor people did not see a piece of meat from one Christmas to the next. It was considered a great treat to get tea, for milk was always drunk by the people at their meals. Before cups became common the people used wooden mugs which they made themselves.I, Maisie Murphy, Main St. Borrisokane, got this from my mother Mrs. J. Murphy, Main St. Borrisokane, Co.
