- Manulla in olden times was a very important place. England in those days had a military Barrack here and a very large one it was. The remains of it could be seen standing some few years ago. It was built opposite Mr. Clarke's house in Manulla and on Mr. Gilligans land. This Barrack was four storey high and could accommodate a great number of soldiers. There were one hundred windows in it.
These soldiers fought against the Irish at Castlebar and Frenchhill. Frenchhill is a village about three miles(continues on next page)- Collector
