  1. After Easter marriages usually take place in this part of the district. It is unlucky to get married in the month of May. There is an old saying connected with it: "If you marry in May you will dearly pay."
    It is an old custom to make pan cakes on Shrove Tuesday.
    Matches are made in the district. It is thought unluckly to marry on Tuesdays and Fridays.
    Money is given as dowry, and goods and stock are also given.
    The old people do not remember of marriages taking place in the houses. There is an old custom of lighting fires on the road-side for the young married pair. A marriage feast is held in the house where
