    The Famine Years
    The famine began in the year eighteen forty five. It was caused by the failure of the potato crop, as the potato was the chief food of the Irish people at that time.
    There was a numerous crowd of people living in this district before the famine years and nearly all of them emigrated to America when the famine was raging.
