The houses in olden times were all thatched.

The houses in olden times were all thatched. There were very small windows and small doors also. The walls were well plastered with clay and blue "till". There was a creel on for a chimney. The old people used to lie in the kitchen bed. The old woman used to have a hasog made from straw and they all used to sit around the rush candles. The candles were made from "rosin" and the inside of rushes. The old woman used to sit around carding and spinning. They burned turf in the fire. They had no grates. The floors were soft clay. There were small panes in the windows.
