Basket making is one of the oldest industries in this country. The trade has been successfully handed down through the ages from father to son. The rapid advance in the manufacture of farming machinery and our improved system of transport have all failed to crush out this ancient trade.
In the Autumn when the farmer starts to lift his potato and root crops, he takes great care that he is well supplied with the old-fashioned potato baskets. Business in the farm-yard would be practically held up in the absence of baskets. In our bogs where large quantities of turf are cut and dried to be sold in different parts of the country scores of baskets are in use.
