  1. My native Parish is Killymard which in Irish is written Cill Uí Bháird which means the church of Ward.
    This is how it got its name.
    Once upon a time there was a storm in Donegal bay and thunder rolled and lightening flashed and the captain whose name was Ward, was afraid he would be lost. He prayed to God that if he would reach land he would build a church.
    He reached land safely on the shore of Donegal Bay, and here he built his church.
    That is how Killymard got its name.
