  1. There are different signs and superstitions which many people believe can foretell the weather. When we listen to the weather forecast on the wireless we think of how the (wirele) people done in olden days when the weather was foretold by signs.
    Everyone knows the importance of St. Swithin's prophesy (15th. July.)
    "St. Swithin's day if be fair,
    For forty days t'will rain no 'mair.
    St. Swithin's day if thou doest rain,
    For forty days it will remain."
    My father tells me of the saying that "a rainbow in the morning,
    Is a shepherd's warning.
    A rainbow at night,
    Is the shepherd's delight.
    A rainbow at noon,
    Is good weather soon.
    To find sea-gulls is a bad weather sign. "Seagull, Seagull keep to the strand,
    For there is always bad weather when you come to land."
