When the smoke of the chimney is going straight up to the heavens it is going to rain. If the cat sits with her back to the fire, or when washing her face; she puts her paw behind her ears, both these are signs of rain.
Owen Caufield says a ring round the moon tells of a storm soon. Maggie Gavin says that a
"Pale moon doth rain:
Red moon doth blow;
White moon doth neither
rain nor snow.
"If the sun goes pale to bed, Twill rain to-morrow it is said.
Jimmy Robinson tells me when a dog eats grass it is a sure sign of rain.
