  1. Travelling people still call at our house and they have done so for many years. Different bands of people come at different times and stay at the "tank". It is called the tank because there is a trough for holding spring water at this place. Bishop Montgomery erected the trough there so that horses could have a drink after the long pull uphill from Moville of about 2 miles. The tank is erected at the junction of the Moville Gulladuff road. They have ponies and carts with them and at night they sleep under these carts. These tinkers make cans, pans etc. and sell them through the towns and country. They buy the tin in Moville. Some of the woman make lace and others read people's fortunes. These people beg as well as sell. They will take anything you give them. These tinkers stay for about three days.
There are a few other beggars who come singly. One man whose name is Harry Brogan. He lives in Moville and comes round every Saturday to beg. every He does not sell anything. Another man whose nickname is "Starch" comes round to beg but he will take nothing but money. Starch stays in a barn. The man he stays with lets him into the barn to sleep on the straw or sometimes he gives him some
