    The priest commanded him in a loud voice to depart from where he stood and made a step toward the fire place. The stranger uttering a terrific roar, the marble hearth stone broke in the centre and the stranger with a loud cry sank out of sight. The hearth stone sprang back into place but the crack remained. Since then the hearth stone has been replaced many times but every hearth stone put in always cracks in the center. Even at the present day the crack is to be seen with the crack in it but the room is closed. Major Connelly has been often in our house and several of our family has been in Castletown house. A former owner of Castletown house was speaker Connelly a member of Henry Grattan's Parliament which was held in the old Irish Parliament house now the Bank of Ireland in Collage Green. He built the Obelisk of Maynooth in order to give employment in the famine times. It is now called "Connelly's Folly." He also built the wonderful barn which is between Castletown and Leixlip Church.
