- This story was told to me by my father, Michael Manning, aged about forty five years, living in Kilcommodan, one mile from the village of Aughrim. Some years ago, an English tourist came to Dublin and hired a jarvey to drive him around the country. One day when they were driving through Tipperary, the English man espied a mountain in the distance:"Well, Paddy, what mountain is that?" said the tourist.
"That is the Devil's Bit mountain" said the jarvey.Next they came to a deep glen some miles away. When the tourist saw it he said:"What glen is that, Paddy?"
"That is the Devil's Glen" said Paddy.
Then the tourist suddenly remarked:
"Well, Paddy, the devil must own a lot of property around here."
