There was another in Lisaleen, Kilconly. Patrick Courtney, Knocknagur, Kilbannon, Team, was teaching in Lissaleen school. He never taught Irish. The scholars had scores round their necks. For every word of Irish they spoke there was a notch put in the score. After a certain time they got a flogging. The Lissaleen school was very small. A thatched roof was on it and a boarded floor. The scholars wrote on slates and they had books written by hand. The Castlegrove school was a Protestant school and the Catholics were stopped from going to it.
