  1. Local Cures.
These are some of the best known old cures practised in the district:-
A donkey's bridle is put on a person with the mumps who is taken three times to a river and has to say certain prayers each time.
The cure is effective only when carried out by a child of parents of the same surname.
A cure for measles is to get a young donkey on which there has never been a bridle and pass three times between its legs.
A person with a sty in his eye gets nine gooseberry thorns and points them towards the eye throwing away the ninth thorn.
This is repeated for three successive mornings and on the third morning the sty will have completely disappeared.
There is a cure for jaundice made from herbs got on a field in which geese have been feeding.
