    It is the custom in this locality that on the 26th of December which is known as Christmas night. In every home throughout Ireland there are candles lit in all the windows in honour of the birth of our Lord.
    In some houses the fire is left blazing all the night so that if the Virgin would call there would be heat and comfort for her. The fire is left blazing in a house in the town-land of Kilcoosey named McGoldrick Kilcoosey Dromahair.
    It is an other old custom that on the night of the 25th the cattle get new straw. It is still done in a lot of houses.
    At nights when the children are going to bed they hang up their stockings for Santa Clause to come. When the morning would come all the children would come down to the kitchen looking at the presents that Santa Clause brings them.
