    The Lindseys were planters and built a house on the shore of Lough Allen about a quarter of a mile from Drumshambo.

    It was pretty evident that no one wanted to buckle up with her.
    "And why John?" says I to John Mahon the story teller.
    "Well" they say that one day a poor woman and seven children came to the Grand House to beg for food. The lady of the house Mrs Lindsey met her outside and in scorn said "Why had you this litter of pigs to your tail when you could not support them?"
    "God gave them to me" said the poor woman "and welcome [?] Holy Will".
    Oh you vermin, said the lady. The poor woman left and got no alms.
    The lady was bearing her first child [?], the child a little girl was born and she had a pig's snout instead of a mouth. She always fed out of a silver trough. The lady had no other child. The poor woman's curse fell on her.
    That's why no fellow would marry her.
    "Did she ever marry?" says I.
