- In olden times people used to go out on the first of May when the sun would be rising and milk their neighbours cows and they would have the good of their neighbours cows the whole year round. They would have three times the amount of butter and milk than their neighbours. After some months people used to get back the butter by putting a red iron or the handle of a loy under the churn.
