  1. Here are some of the local customs in connection with the festivals of the year. At Christmas the windows are decorated with holly and laurel and paper flowers and these are allowed on for the twelve days of Christmas. On St. Stephen's day and girls disguise themselves and they go from house to house with a holly bush in their hands and a dead wren in it. They also repeat the following poem.
    The wren, the wren.
    The king of all birds,
    St Stephen's day,
    He was caught in the furge.
    Although he is small,
    His family is great,
    Shake up, your old pockets,
    And give us a treat.
    Then money is given to them they divide between them or they have a party. Then comes St Bridget's night.
    Boys and girls disguise themselves and go around from house to house. They dance and sing and for this they get
