twelve years ago. There was very little hurling played in my district in former times. Other outdoor amusements were handball, weight throwing and high jump. Three horses were put together and razors put on their backs to know what person would have the courage to jump across them. If a person jumped but failed, he would be cut by the razors. A great weight thrower from Castlemaine was a man by the name of Flynn. Once a small fat man was drinking at a bar. He said he could throw the half hundred weight one hundred feet. The champion weight thrower of that place was listening to him and said it was impossible. They put down a bet. The small man got the weight and went to a well. It was one hundred feet deep. The man left the weight drop in and won the bet.
