- Marriage Custom
An old custom still persists in this district when a widow or widower remarries. The young men of the district provide themselves with pieces of metal tubing, or failing this, they knock the bottoms off large bottles, and when night falls the blowing of these improvised trumpets can be heard resounding through the district from all directions. This goes on for several nights before the wedding. They call it "sounding them".I have heard this "sounding" on many occasions - the last only a couple of years ago.
