(continued from previous page)There was a nunnery in Nurney long ago on the site marked on the plan on the opposite page. The nuns spent their time spinning weaving and praying. There are the ruins of the old church still to be seen in the middle of the graveyard. In this church they used to assemble for prayer. Nurney means oratory or place of prayer and this is how the district got its name.
