  1. On my dog. "Poetry"
I had a dog he went astray
I searched for him both night and day.
And at last among the hay
I found him cosy rolled away.
I called him by his homely name
And out to me at once he came.
And jumped and barked with a such glee
It was a pleasure him to see.
    He followed along the road
And as we went we saw a toad.
He jumped at once to try his skill
And upon my faith he there did kill.
He looked at me as if to say
Do you know the good I've done this day.
I smiled and patted him on the back
And then he knew I was not slack.
To see the good he had done
Without a horse or hound or gun.
