    On the mearing of the Parishes of Kilmovee and Aughamore about half way between Ballyhaunis and Charlestown on the Galway-Sligo road are the chain of lakes known as the lakes of Urlaur. The village of Cluanfiacra is surrounded by the waters of those lakes. They are 5 in number namely Loch Urlaur on the east, Loch Ruad on the Suth, Loch Dub. and Loch na Veena on the west and north west and Loch na-mna-óg in the north east Loch Ruad or the red lake is better known as the home of Ruadhine or the Red Daughter of Mananán Mac Lir who being defeated in battle by Milesians and being possessed of druidical powers changed his seven daughters into seven water maidens because he would not have them being taken in marriage by the victorious Milesian chiefs. Into the Red Lake he put Ruadní. On the western side of the lake is an
