    There are some local beliefs about forge water. It is said it would cure warts. It would cure chilblains also. There is another belief that it would cure a toothache. Another one is that it could stop blood. Long ago the smiths did some small jobs for the farmers that he could not be paid for such as putting a bolt in a plough or any other small thing. In the end of the year he might have a lot of little jobs done for them. Then at the harvest time they would send him a load of corn and then he would have a very big threshing but nowadays the farmers do not sent the smiths gifts. The old people say that Matty Mansfield's father could banish rats by saying some words. The forge at the creamery is owned by Matty Mansfield and people say that his father could banish rats by saying
