Around this district the potatoes are usually sown in drills. The farmers make the drills with a double-mould-board plough, Long ago wooden ploughs were used make the drills. Spades are now bought in a shop because they are not made locally. Before the potatoes are sown they are cut into three or more parts and each part must have what is called an "eye". Some of the people help one another in sowing the potatoes by sending men to sow them with them. In olden times people used to help one another because they used not have as many ploughs or horses as we have nowadays and one person would lend his horse or plough if he had one to a neighbour to plough his fields and that is how they used to manage in the olden times.
