- Local Cures
The local cure for a swollen jaw or a black eye was to press a cold stone or (?) against it. This is supposed to make the swelling go down.
(Bleeding nose) A piece of soft thick moss held pressed under the nose, or a key held against the middle (oft) of the back either of those was supposed to stop the bleeding.
(Toothache) a piece of paper or wood was lighted and then put out again, so that smoke rose from it, then the patient held his mouth open over it so that the smoke reach ed the tooth and was supposed to stop the pain. Herbs were also used for curing. People went to holy wells and bathed in them and were often cured.- Bailitheoir
