Long ago, there were no doctors in remote districts and the people had cures of their own. These are some of them. If a person had a thorn in his finger, a fox's tongue should be rubbed on it, then they say the thorn would come out; if a person had a wart, the old cure was to get a black snail and rub it on it then stick the snail on a thorn and according as the snail withered the snail would fade. If you had a sty in your eye, you should get a bit of a goose berry bush and stick it in the sore and bless it, then the sore would get better. If a person had ringworm the seventh son was supposed to cure it, if he left his hand on the sore. The cure for a sore mouth was to find a person, who was born after her father's death; she has to be fasting and then blow three breaths in the child's mouth, saying in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. If water lodges in a stone a wart should be dipped in it because this water is an infallible cure for warts.
