    Travelling Folk
One of the oldest travelling street-singers
who used to visit Portumna was Jerry Palmer commonly known as " Cock Robin.' He always wore a big whisker. He was nick-named "Cock Robin" because he always sang " The Death of Poor Cock Robin." He visited the town nearly every month. It was believed he was the sign of bad weather because whenever he came to the town it rained. He only stayed one night in town at a time. He always travelled on foot.
On market days and fair-days three great fiddlers named Conroy's used to visit the town. They were fairly respectable because they earned a good lot of money at wed-
dings and dances. They always travelled on foot.
