Sir Fredrick Hamilton lived about the sixteenth century. He ruled over a big part of Leitrim and a part of Bavan. He was a great tyrant and he hung many people. He used to come round to the houses and if he found the people's shoes damp he used hang them on a tree which was near his castle.About this time there lived in the district a great hero named M' Gowan. Sir Fredrick sent twelve soldiers to arrest him but he killed them all.
