  1. Sir Fredrick Hamilton
    Sir Fredrick Hamilton lived about the sixteenth century. He ruled over a big part of Leitrim and a part of Bavan. He was a great tyrant and he hung many people. He used to come round to the houses and if he found the people's shoes damp he used hang them on a tree which was near his castle.
    About this time there lived in the district a great hero named M' Gowan. Sir Fredrick sent twelve soldiers to arrest him but he killed them all. Seeing this Sir Fredrick sent more soldiers out who arrested him and tied him to an a anvil
