"St Patricks" Holy Well5 & 6Until "recently" pilgrimages were made to this Holy Well on Saturdays. The visits were made for spiritual needs and temporal benefits.
7 & 8The prayers said were 3 Paters and 3 Aves three times at the back of the rock, and 15 decades and the Creed before the well.14 trees which formerly surrounded the well were used to count the rounds and the 15th decade was said in front of the well. (The trees which surrounded the well fell recently)
9 & 10The water was considered efficacious for bodily diseases. The water was drunk and also carried away and the people had wonderful faith in the well.
15Pieces of cloth were affixed to the trees
Local TraditionA poor woman who lived in Carrickbanagher was crippled completely, and one Saturday she asked her son to carry her to the King of Sundays Holy Well at Branchfield. He did so. She told him to go home to his work and to return to fetch her home in the evening. On his arrival in the evening she walked to(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Faisnéiseoir
