- The Care of Our Farm AnimalsMy father's occupation is farming. We have eight cows and one heifer and four calves and a pony and three pigs and a sow. We have fifty hens and sixteen ducks and five geese and a cat and dog.
The names of the cows are Dearg, Beauty, Purty, Courtney, Black Kerry, Madam, Cannie, Strawberry. When I am driving the cows I say ''How I How.'' When I am calling calves I say ''Sook! Sook!''
The cowhouse is whitewashed inside and outside. It is divided into two parts and one part is seperated from the other by a partition and there is a place near the partition for holding the mess tubs. The cows are tied with ropes around their horns.
The name of our pony is Bob. His fodder is hay and oats and potatoes and he is shoed once a month. He is clipped every Winter.
When I am calling the hens I say ''Tuk! Tuk!'' and when calling the ducks I say ''Feen! Feen!'' and when calling geese I say, ''Baddie! Baddie!'' It is said if there is a sop(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
