One day Jerh Lyne of Toureenamult (the father of the author of this account) took "Paddy Blake" to compete at Killarney Races and he won the first, second and third races which no horse did ever before or since.
The MacSweeney's had shooting rights around the Quarry Cross and were allowed have guns in their house which was a very rare thing that time. About a hundred years ago Mr Denny MacSweeney was very fond of grouse shooting and he employed a man named Denis Cronin (Donnchadh Fada as he was called) to keep an eye on the packs of birds facing the Grouse Season. "Mr Denny" sent word to Donnchadh that he would go shooting on a certain day and he told Donnchadh to be out in the bog before daybreak to hear the grouse crowing.
There was no clock in Donnchadh's house and after waking out of the first sleep he thought it was brightening for day so up he got and down to the bog.
