It is simply a piece of seasoned board with one long side slightly longer than the other. The tail has a number of holes to which are attached fishing line or gut with hooks and bait. To this long side is attached a piece of strong line and to this is tied a long line which the fisherman holds.

It is made to be travel by a series of jerks. First a small jerk and then slacken line, then another small jerk and slacken and so on, the fisherman feeding it with more line from a reel as it moves out. The hooks and baits are trailing after it and if the fishing is good every hook might have one.
It is used principally on lakes and has the great advantage of carrying a number of hooks at a time and the fisherman is not worried by eels.
